High Fire Season Preparedness and Response Levels Press Conference

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department (SBC) will announce the start of the 2023 High Fire Season for all of Santa Barbara County, marking a heightened period of fire risk and preparedness.

Speakers Include: The County of Santa Barbara 2nd District Supervisor Capps, 3rd District Supervisor Hartmann, Santa Barbara City Fire Chief Mailes, USFS LPF Div. 4 Mike Scott, Santa Barbara County Sheriff Brown, Cal Fire San Luis Unit Chief John Owens, and Santa Barbara County Fire Chief / Fire Warden Chief Hartwig.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department (SBC) will be declaring the commencement of the 2023 High Fire Season, effective from June 5th, 2023, across Santa Barbara County. This announcement includes the suspension of all burn permits and the augmentation of resources to combat vegetation fires. As the fire risk heightens, the SBC stresses the necessity for enhanced fire safety awareness, proper vegetation clearance around structures, familiarity with the “Ready! Set! Go!” wildfire action plan, and measures for ensuring indoor air quality against wildfire smoke. The SBC urges all community members to remain diligent in their fire safety practices throughout the High Fire Season to protect the safety and well-being of the county’s residents.
