FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On Tuesday March 24th a Santa Barbara County Fire Department engine company responded to a call for service for a woman having a medical emergency. The engine company, along with other first responders assisted the woman and she was transported to the hospital. At the hospital, the patient’s symptoms began to evolve and become in line with symptoms of COVID-19.

All responders were notified and immediately put into quarantine. All equipment had already been decontaminated per normal protocol, but deeper cleaning measures were additionally taken. The patient, as well as all responders have been tested for COVID-H and are awaiting results. Our firefighters will remain in quarantine until results are received.
