The National Weather Service Los Angeles has issued a Red Flag Warning for the Santa Barbara County Mountains and Eastern Santa Ynez Valley Mountain Range.
Red Flag Warning Duration: 4:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 7th through 6:00 p.m. Thursday, January 9th, 2025.
A Red Flag Warning means that a combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can create extreme fire behavior.
Warning Details:
- Winds: Northeast sustained winds of 20 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 50
- Relative Humidity: Dropping to between 10% and 20% on Tuesday and
- Potential Impacts: If fire ignition occurs, there is a high risk of rapid fire spread, extreme fire behavior, and long-range spotting, which could threaten life and Additionally, downed trees, power lines, and power outages are possible.
Recommended Precautions:
Residents should take appropriate precautions during the Red Flag Warning, including:
- Review Ready, Set, Go: Visit Ready, Set, Go for detailed preparedness
- Report Smoke: Report any signs of smoke immediately by calling 911.
- Avoid Spark-Producing Activities: Use extreme caution when operating spark- or flame-producing machinery near grass or brush.
- Limit Outdoor Activities: Avoid hiking or other front-country trail activities during the warning period.
