John joined the US Army in March 1978 and was honorably discharged four years later. He was then hired as a wildland firefighter “Hotshot” at the Vanderberg Air Force base in 1983. In 1984, John became a reserve Firefighter for the City of Lompoc and then was hired as a full-time Firefighter in 1985. John was hired as a full-time Firefighter for the Santa Barbara County Fire Department in December 1989. He was assigned to a variety of stations and was eventually promoted to Engineer/Inspector and then Captain. He also worked as a Duty Officer in Dispatch and Crew Member in Air Operations. John retired after 32 years of service on April 1st, 2022.

Joey came to our department in 2020 with years of experience as a Paramedic and as a County dispatcher. Joey will be remembered for his positive attitude and hard work ethic. Joey made lasting relationships with everyone he came in contact with. Joey was the example that if you put your heart and mind into something, you can accomplish anything.

Allen was hired at Santa Barbara County Fire Department on April 1, 2002 as a utility driver, promoted to fire equipment Dozer Swamper in April 2003, and ultimately became a firefighter on February 13, 2006. Allen was assigned to Fire Station 12 in Goleta. Allen received the Fire Chief’s Special Recognition Award for his excellent work on the Office of Emergency Services/Fire Department Wildland Task Force Outreach Days and his volunteer work on the Annual Safety Fair and Community Emergency Response Team Programs.

Michael graduated from the Allan Hancock College Fire Academy and began his career with Lompoc City Fire Dept as a Reserve Firefighter, Vandenberg AFB Fire Dept as a civilian firefighter, Montecito Fire Dept and finally, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department. Michael progressed as a Firefighter- Paramedic, Engineer-Inspector and then as Captain at County Station 21 in Old Orcutt. During the Jesusita Fire in Santa Barbara, Michael’s crew was the first on scene and last to leave. Michael loved being a firefighter and respected all of the firefighters he worked with.

David was a Hot Shot crew leader for Santa Barbara County before taking a full-time job with the County Fire Department as a firefighter. He retired after 27 years of service as an engineer. David used his knowledge of computers to make maps of fires for the department.

Dean was hired by the Santa Barbara County Fire Department on April 22, 1996. Dean served the citizens of Santa Barbara County and the State of California for 13 ½ years as a Fire Heavy Equipment Operator. Dean was stationed in Los Alamos.
2003

Bob Moseley was hired as a reserve firefighter in Buellton in 1982 and was hired full-time two years later. He worked in both the Los Alamos and New Cuyama stations before he was promoted to fire engineer/inspector in July 2000 at Fire Station 18.
